The Relationship Between Prostatic Volume And Serum Estrogen In Obese Versus Non Obese Males With Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

Background: Old age, obesity and androgens are more vulnerable to prostatic disorders. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is a common problem for adults. Objectives: To determine the morphological changes of prostate gland effects Estrogen levels in obese versus non-obese males with BPH. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted on sixty patients an emergency clinic Dr. Ruth Pfau, Dow university Health Sciences, Karachi from 17th May 2019 15th February 2020(IRB-1182/DUHS/approval/2019). All selected have BPH assessed by Global side effect score >7. Patients were divided into two groups non-obese, as indicated Body Mass Index (BMI) waist circumference (WC). Group (obese) had BMI ≥ 25; WC 90cm group B (non-obese) < 90cm. Trans rectal ultrasound estimation serum performed analyzed length, width, diameter volume prostate. Results: The mean higher 36.13±3.673ml while it 31.21±6.771 ml, which found be statistically significant (p = 0.001). 328.21±115.05pmol/l, 309.72±73.62pmol/l (p=0.462). Significant positive correlation observed (r 0.279, p- =0.031) between participants. Conclusion: Obesity compared participants within same age showed moderate obesity.
